Mr. Tran Quang Phuong

Mr. Tran Quang Phuong (Phuong Tran), Managing Partner with Tran & Tran, has over 20 years of specialist experience in intellectual property law. Phuong has special expertise in dispute resolution and the management of complaints relating to patent rights. He is highly experienced in matters relating to the registration of patents with the National Office of Intellectual Property in Hanoi, and he has a sound background in intellectual property dispute resolution utilizing the Vietnamese court system.

Phuong is a member of the Vietnam Intellectual Property Association (VIPA), the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (ASEAN IPA), and the International Association of Business Leaders (IABL).

Phuong received a Bachelor of Chemistry degree from Hanoi National University in 1996. In 1998 he received a Master’s degree in Materials Science from the International Training Institute for Materials Science in Hanoi, with his studies funded by the Netherlands Government. He became a Vietnamese Registered Patent Attorney in accordance with the requirements of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) in Hanoi in 2003.

Phuong has participated in industrial property rights training courses for patent experts in various locations throughout Asia, including Korea, Singapore, and Japan.

Mr. Quyen Tran, Partner and Deputy General Director with Tran & Tran. Quyen’s practice area concentrates on inventions in chemistry and materials. He has plentiful hands-on experience in conducting patent searches for the purpose of drafting specifications and determining patent infringement; monitoring patent portfolios including valuation of patents as well as negotiating, and drafting patent licenses and assignment agreements Quyen got his Master’s Degree in Chemistry Science granted by Hanoi Technology University.

Son is an expert in chemistry, the pharmaceutical industry, and biotechnology. He possesses 15 years of combined experience working as a senior scientist at Microbiotix, Inc.(US), postdoctoral associate at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (US), and graduate assistant at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (US). Son has a remarkable record of publications and presentations. He was awarded Thermo Scientific Certificate for LC/MS Operations, ACS Minnesota Travel Grant Award in the US, and some other scholarships.

Mr. Tran has over twenty years of experience in the intellectual property field and has extensive experience in counseling and management of intellectual property portfolios, patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, patent and trademark opinions, due diligence assessments, licensing, product development strategies, technology transfer, intellectual property litigation management, and copyrights. He has perspectives as both in-house and outside counsel to a variety of companies ranging from start-ups to public companies. Mr. Tran has filed and prosecuted in excess of eight-hundred patent applications on behalf of diverse clientele including Fortune 500 companies, medium-sized companies, start-ups, and Universities.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thom is a Senior Associate at Tran & Tran Thom represents domestic and foreign clients in various IP-related matters for trademarks, inventions, utility models, and industrial designs in Vietnam and in many other regional countries. She has over 14 years of experience in the field of intellectual property, particularly in the trademark search, filing, and prosecution of trademark applications as well as in the renewal and maintenance of IP rights in Vietnam, China, Japan, Korea, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Mrs. Thom has professional skills in trademark management, drafting trademark license and assignment agreements as well as handling infringement. Prior to joining Tran & Tran, she worked for the Department of Maternal and Child Health - Ministry of Health. Mrs. Thom became an Intellectual Property Consultant in 2008.

He has experience in patent and industrial design prosecution, IP rights licensing, and the foreign prosecution of patent applications. Before practicing in the IP field, he had gained extensive legal research experience while working for the Institute of Legislative Studies of the Vietnam National Assembly. He earned his LL.M. degree in IP law at the University of New South Wales (Australia).
